Arnold & Son DBG Skeleton: GMT display reinterpreted
With the 'DBG Skeleton', Arnold & Son presents a new version of the unique 'DBG' watch with two-zone display. The model features a new caliber A & S1309, developed and manufactured by Arnold & Son's in-house manufacturer.
The name 'DBG' stands for the English abbreviation for the two major complications of the clock: ' Double Balance ' and ' GMT ' (Greenwich Mean Time) displayed by this model at the same time as any time in a different time zone Can).
Skeletized watches have been popular for centuries. The elaborate art of making skeletal watches requires the utmost care and great technical know-how. In doing so, the frame elements, such as the dial and the circuit boards, bridges and brackets of the factory, as well as the mechanical parts such as the gear train, are reduced to a minimum, so that only the material is present which can not be dispensed with for functional and structural reasons. The result is an unobstructed view of the inner life of the watch and its many items. The "DBG Skeleton" can be used to admire decorative details such as blued screws, the Geneva strip cut on the printed circuit board and the glazed bridges and edges on the dial page.

As a masterpiece of perfect symmetry, the "DBG Skeleton" model has two separate time displays, each of which has its own spring house, gear with its own balance and escapement, which can now be wonderfully viewed through the open dial.
This highly exceptional technical feature allows the two time displays to be set independently of each other. For clocks that display two or more time zones, normally only the hour hands can be set separately from each other. Just like the DBG Skeleton, it is also possible to set the minute hands independently from each other, opens up new possibilities such as the setting of time zones, which are set by the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) half an hour (eg India with a time offset GMT +5: 30) A quarter hour (eg Nepal with a time shift GMT of +5: 45).
In addition, a sub-dial to 12 o'clock displays the time difference between the two set time zones on a 24-hour basis. This gives information about the time difference and also indicates whether in the second time zone is just day or night. A large central pointer indicates the seconds for both time zones.
Arnold & Son Caliber A & S1309
Clocks with a double balance and a double feather house have historically been traced back to so-called "captain's watches" and have a long tradition, but are not often found these days. The principle fits perfectly to the Arnold & Son instrument collection, because separate spring housings / wheel mechanisms as well as balance / inhibitions of the watch make it possible to have various complications without affecting the other in precision or taking energy. It is the optimal solution for displaying a second time zone as in the "DBG Skeleton".
No less impressive is the aesthetic realization of the clock: its perfect symmetry, determines the positioning of the elements in the dual work, which can be viewed from the front and back . During the design of the new movement, particular attention was paid to the fact that the overall impression of the new skeleton was enhanced.

The back opens the view of a balanced arrangement of skeletal bridges, spring houses and wheel arches. On the front, in the lower third, the two unrest are visible, which are enclosed in a plate fined with a vertical strip of Geneva strip. The two balance blocks look at each other and form a circle together.

The skeletal dial for displaying the time of the first time zone has Arabic numerals, which for displaying the second time zone has Roman numerals.
Both dials are made of "smoky", metal-coated sapphire crystal. They are transparent but allow for good readability. The two crowns of the watch are arranged in perfect symmetry: one on the conventional 3 o'clock position, the second on 9 o'clock. The crowns on the right side can be used to draw up both works. For the setting of the time, however, each of the two time displays has its own crown. This minimizes the risk of accidentally adjusting one of the two displays. The time of the time display on the left side is set over the crown at 9 o'clock. The time of the time display on the right side is placed over the crown at three o'clock.
The new edition of DBG Skeleton is limited to 30 copies.
