Baume & Mercier Clifton Hand Lift 1830
The new Clifton Handaufzug 1830 from 18 karat red gold presents itself with a new innovative technology. The Baume & Mercier Manufaktur movement (BM12-1975M) incorporates the exclusive TwinSpir ™ technology, which allows higher precision.
Baume & Mercier annually presents a new, exclusive model of the Clifton collection, expanding the range of legendary timepieces in this collection. The new Clifton 1830 hand-lift with the TwinSpir ™ technology is the latest addition to the Clifton range, a collection that is already distinguished by numerous remarkable watches with complications such as a flying tourbillon, a 5-minute repetition or a perpetual calendar. With its 18-carat red gold case, this timepiece combines various special design elements with a completely new movement.
New Manufakturkaliber Baume & Mercier BM12-1975M
According to the motto: "Only satisfied with perfection. Only watches of the highest quality can be produced. "Baume & Mercier has developed his own manufactory caliber in close collaboration with the Manufacture Horlogère ValFleurier, the company's workmaker.
The new mechanical manufac- ture caliber with manual lift (ref. BM12-1975M) has been specifically designed to meet the product requirements of Baume & Mercier. These include the following technical features and typical design elements from Baume & Mercier:
Exclusive TwinSpir ™ technology as well as a balance with fine control over the moment of inertia
High-quality finishes of the caliber components such as bridges with Geneva strip decor, pearl-plated circuit board, blued steel screws as well as special Baume & Mercier engraving
Height: 3,5 mm, diameter: 12 ½ '' ', regulated in five layers, stones: 18
Power reserve: 90 hours, frequency: 4 Hz (28,800 half-oscillations / hour)

Caliber BM12-1975M with innovative core
The Baume & Mercier BM12-1975M caliber features advanced technologies developed by Richemont's Research and Innovation Department. This is why the TwinSpir ™ technology is used in a new spiral spring. Their composite structure consists of two mutually offset silicon layers, which are held together by means of a silicon dioxide layer. This intermediate layer also has a thermocompensating effect.
The TwinSpir ™ technology is combined with a fine control over the moment of inertia and
Improves the long-term precision of the movement in different positions,
Reduces magnetization susceptibility,
Increases the resistance to smaller shocks and repeated vibrations.

The non-magnetic, light and corrosion-resistant monocrystalline silicon is characterized by different elastic and thermoelastic properties along the various crystalline arrangements. This is related to the elastic anisotropy of the material. If, in a watch, the spiral spring, which is responsible for the gait accuracy, expands and contracts in the course of its oscillation, the elastic anisotropy can influence the uniformity of the oscillation and thus the chronometric performance of the watch.
This disadvantage is now successfully balanced by the TwinSpir ™ technology. Here, two silicon layers with differently oriented crystalline arrangements (see Figure 1 ) are combined so that the deviations of the elastic moduli overall reduce the effects of the natural property of the material.
The silicon dioxide layer connects the two silicon cores of the TwinSpir ™ coil spring (see Figure 3 ) and also acts as a thermocompensation element for this coil spring. Together with the all-surrounding layer of silicon dioxide (see Figure 4 ), this leads to stable values within a broad temperature range.

In the newly developed turbulence of the caliber of Baume & Mercier, fine regulation takes place over the moment of inertia and not over the length of the spiral spring. In the case of the latter, the effective spiral spring length is changed by means of a feedback mechanism. The design used here offers the advantage of a more vibration-resistant gait adjustment since the adjustment weights, which regulate the moment of inertia and thus ensure the exact adjustment of the gait, are securely held between the arms and rests on the riot.
With new technology a step into the future
Baume & Mercier is the first Maison of the group to use the technology developed by the Research and Innovation Department of Richemont. It fits perfectly with the manufactory caliber BM12-1975M from the workshops of the Manufacture Horlogère ValFleurier of the group. The inclusion of the exclusive TwinSpir ™ technology in the new Clifton hand lift 1830 is entirely in line with the motto of Baume & Mercier: "Only satisfied with perfection. Only make watches of the highest quality. "
